The desire of the Zerby family and Generations Church with them, is that from within the unspeakable tragedy of losing their son, Brycen, “one more person” would come to know and rely on Jesus.
The following is released as an expression of healing and hope to every person involved or listening. It is our hope that it is received tenderly, spread to others or released to the public only with accurate context, and understood to come from our brokenness yet confidence in Jesus.
We believe God’s love is powerful, the only thing we can place our ultimate hope in. We’re not separated from Him. He is with us. And we’re needy for Him. He allows questions, gives forgiveness, and meets us where we’re at – literally sustaining us by and from His goodness.
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus. Romans 8:35,37-39
We’re heartbroken. Completely. But unified, trusting in Jesus, elevating and relying on His love and then giving it away the best we know how. Our pain is bringing us towards Jesus and each other.
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in Spirit. Psalm 34:18
In God’s presence, we are finding shelter and strength. For now, moment by moment and enough for only the moments immediately ahead. But enough. Always enough.
Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Psalm 91:1-2
What is there to do? Drop defensiveness, anger and blame. Weep together. Have open, honest, and real conversations about our pain. And as we are able, with each other and within the communities we live in and enjoy, be a presence where God’s love is given opportunity to win.
We invite each person to turn towards God, as we are. And to receive His gift of eternal life, secured through the surrender of His own son, Jesus. Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6

In the meantime, a celebration of life service is planned for Brycen, Friday, Sept. 7, 3:00 PM at Generations Church, 3600 W. 22nd Street and a graveside service Saturday, Sept. 8, 11:00 AM at Lakeside Cemetery, Canon City, Colorado. Brycen was a huge Broncos fan so the family has requested we show up in Broncos gear. Let’s do that well.
